You ordered the nude. It arrived, you put it on, and it is not your nude. Now what?

With us, the answer is short: we swap it for another shade, free. This episode is the long version, because a makeup shade exchange in Egypt is rare enough that people keep asking us if there is a catch.

There is not. Here is how it works.

Why a makeup shade exchange in Egypt is so rare

Buying a lip colour online is a small act of faith. You are choosing from a photo, on a phone, with the brightness turned down, probably in a microbus.

Every screen shows colour a little differently, and every pair of lips changes it again. The same shade can read rosy on your friend and brown on you. That is not a fault in the product, and it is not a fault in you. It is just how pigment and skin work together.

Most brands leave that risk with the customer. Once makeup is opened, the usual answer is "sorry, no returns", and you end up with a drawer of almost-right colours.

We did not want to build a brand on that drawer.

How the free shade exchange works

The promise on our site is one line: if the shade isn't right for you, we exchange it for another one. Free.

In practice it looks like this.

One. Message us on WhatsApp. A real person answers, seven days a week. No bots, no ticket numbers.

Two. Tell us which product and shade you received, and which shade you would like instead. Have your order number to hand so we can find you quickly.

Three. Not sure which shade to switch to? Say so. Send us a photo in daylight if you like, tell us what looked wrong (too pink, too pale, too dark), and we will suggest one. This is the part we enjoy.

Four. We arrange the swap and your new shade is on its way.

That is the whole process. You do not need to write an essay or prove anything. "It doesn't suit me" is a complete reason.

What the shade exchange covers, and what it doesn't

We said we would tell you plainly, so here is the plain version.

The shade exchange is exactly that: one shade swapped for another shade of the same product. If your Lip Contour Stain in 01 Sugar Mama turned out too light, you can move to 03 Almond Mom or 05 Mocha Muse. There are eight shades to choose from.

It is not a refund for a product you have used and simply changed your mind about. Used products can't be returned, unless the item arrived broken or wrong.

And if that does happen, a cracked tube or the wrong item in the box, you do not need the shade exchange at all. Send us a photo and a replacement is on its way. We replace, we don't argue.

Why we do it

Three reasons, and none of them is charity.

First, we would rather you wear the product than own it. A lip colour that sits in a drawer does nothing for you and nothing for us. A shade you love gets worn, gets noticed, and gets asked about at a wedding.

Second, it makes us better. Every shade we've launched started as a customer comment, and exchanges are some of the most honest comments we get. When several people swap out of the same shade for the same reason, that tells us something a survey never would.

Third, it is very old common sense. Egyptologists believe women here were colouring their lips with red ochre mixed with fat or beeswax around five thousand years ago. Nobody chose that from a swatch on a screen. It was mixed by hand until it looked right on the person wearing it. An exchange is our modern version of "let me adjust that for you".

How to pick the right shade the first time

Of course, the best exchange is the one you never need. A few habits help.

Look at shades on lips, not just on tubes. Our Lip Glaze page shows each of its six shades on different skin tones, so find the one closest to yours and trust that over the swatch.

Check your phone brightness, and look in daylight if you can. Night mode turns everything warm.

Think about what you already wear. If your favourite lipstick is a brownish nude, Hot Cocoa 08 will feel like home. If you live in pinks, Pink Bow 05 is the safer first step.

Yes. The free shade exchange exists for exactly that, because you cannot judge a lip colour without trying it. If the shade isn't right for you, we exchange it for another shade of the same product.
